February is gearing up to be a quick, busy month. There's state writing work samples to score, spring home visit conferences, a long weekend at my parents (we can't wait), a staff development day, the first round of the state reading assessment, keeping up with the day to day, and continuing to do my maternity leave sub plans.
There's stress for sure and moments when I am not as calm as I would like to be, but amidst the whirl there are opportunities to slow down and savor...
reading with the girls
feeling the baby move and watching to see from the outside
rubbing Diana's back as she falls to sleep
sitting with M at the end of the day, drinking peppermint tea
being swept up in a good book
collecting thoughts in my writer's notebook
experiencing a read aloud book with my class
And that is what I try to focus on. I try to gear up for the whirl of activity, while also carefully planning in time to stop, breathe, and savor life with those around me.

All of these little moments make meaning in our lives. This it what counts. This is what we need to value. All that other stuff we have to do, but we need to focus on these little moments. You captured it perfectly here.
ReplyDeleteRuth wrote about this idea on her blog yesterday:
"This kind of living is a balance between the big picture -- all that needs done -- and the tiny details -- the choice of the moments. When my moments matter, life isn't a jumbled mess."
Enjoy the time now.
The world rushes on around you but yet you can stop and notice those small quiet moments. This was great!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful! I loved IMs from my daughter tonight as I was commenting on posts!
ReplyDeleteSo good to hear your 'relaxing' moments, readying for the baby & all that it means. Best wishes to you!
ReplyDeleteThe small moments and quiet time to just be are much needed! Enjoy you'd pregnancy as much as you can
ReplyDeleteA busy month will go by "wooosh." Knowing to stop, breathe, and savor small moments helps to keep the balance. No matter how much you like your job, in a long run it is you and your family that matter the most.
