The buzz rose throughout the day as more and more snow accumulated. Kids asked, "Will there be a snow day tomorrow?" Kids made predictions. After kids were released, teachers wondered the same thing. There was a good chance for either - all depending on the events leading up to the condition of the roads in the morning.
This morning I woke up to the sound of the snow plow moving on the street behind my house. I glanced at the clock - 5:15. It probably won't be a snow day, I thought, especially if I don't get a call very soon. I settled back in for the last little bit before my alarm would go off.
I continued to hear the plow - back and forth three or four more times. But no call. So off to school with a smile on my face for a snowy January day with the kids.

I'm guessing the sound of the snow plow isn't a good sign of a snow day. We need one every now and again, but it wasn't your time today. But there is time to capture the beauty of the snow - enjoy! I'm kinda missing our usual snow here in the midwest.
ReplyDeleteThat's the worst... when the call doesn't come but it should. UGH! I felt your pain by the time I reached the end of your writing. On the bright side, that's one less day to make up in the future!
ReplyDeleteI know that feeling so well...listening to the snow plow and waiting for the phone call. My daughter is an exchange student in Turkey. She had a snow day today for 3 inches of snow AND school is cancelled for tomorrow as well. :)
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain! I feel that last year I (and we) were cheated out of snow-days! I am hoping that this year will bring lots of snow (of course only for the environmental reasons; helping the low water levels in the great lakes), and at least a few snow days!
ReplyDeleteAhh! How well I know that anticipation. Will they call it off? Won't they? Am I going to have to drive on yucky roads? The best are when they have to call school off the night before…
